Mosman Art Prize Finalist 2017

Very pleased that my painting  “Road to Daydream Mine, Broken Hill” is included in the Mosman Art Prize this year.   Opening on 23 September until 29 October 2017.   Mostly painted on site in the Apollyon Valley (sign posted as Death Valley due to the  number of people who lost their life working in the Silver mine).   Many of the miners were children as young as 8 years old.  It was a very uncompromising landscape, barren and dry looking in the midday sun but had amazing colour ranges during sunrise and sunset.    I tried to capture this in the work.

Road to Daydream Mine, Broken Hill

Broken Hill Painting Trip

Spent three weeks exploring the great Australian outback. It was a great experience travelling and painting in such a huge and varied landscape. Stunning colours!  Whilst remote from humanity, plenty of natural wildlife.  We were alone out there but not alone.   Great place to contemplate and get totally involved in my work.

Free Camping & Plein Air Painting At Carcoar, NSW.

Spent the last few days of autumn at Carcoar, near Bathurst in New South Wales with fellow painter, Ben Milne.  Great free camping in the Council showground. Beautiful, historic town and surrounding area.   Found great spot to paint just above the town, beside a disused rail track.   Below are photos of my works in progress and the campsite and my dinner for one on the last night.
